The night is young, but sadly we are not It's many years since we were in our prime It's hard to face the fact this is our lot We navigate the labyrinth of time And people rarely age like fine red wine They fade away just like an old snapshot We feel life slipping by with each clock chime The night is young, but sadly we are not It almost feels like winning the jackpot Whenever we can fight this slow decline Our triumphs of the past they soon forgot It's many years since we were in our prime It's tempting to surrender and resign This losing battle isn't worth a jot But still we waver at the borderline It's hard to face the fact this is our lot And so begins the thickening of the plot We map it out in rhythm and in rhyme And weaving all our thoughts into a knot We navigate the labyrinth of time When artistry and impetus combine We'll give it everything that we have got It does no harm to aim for the sublime While we have breath then we still have a shot - The night is young

Contempt 06:13
Contempt is not simple She is not clear Oh, it's so complex Full of fear Regret is unbroken No reason or rhyme And glitches, commitment Out of time Contempt is not simple She is not clear Oh, it's so complex Full of fear Regret is unbroken No reason or rhyme And glitches, commitment Out of time Time's not on your side Access now denied Quit your constant whine Fucking fall in line

Cry Havoc 05:38
Nine yards was a yard too far I fell a little bit short I didn't quite make the grade Just an afterthought Five years was a month too long Now there's no time left That ship sailed long ago My sins unconfessed Cry havoc Let slip the dogs of war Cry havoc This is what we waited for Cry havoc Cast off that ball and chain Cry havoc And let confusion reign This is not a false alarm It's not a fire drill It's time to face the facts And take the poisoned pill They say you can never go home Even if you dare I'm not bitter or upset I don't care enough to care (Chorus) I'm not your Abélard You're not my Héloïse But you take whatever you're given In times like these Pick up these rocks and stones Squeeze 'em til they bleed In my mind I calculate The algebra of need (Chorus x 2)

S.I.G.H.S. 02:53
Something that she did Teeters on the edge Us and them revealed Something that we did Nuts and bolts survive Hearts and minds do not Earth and spit and glue We do not survive We are nothing but the air that we breathe We are here and there and then we will leave We are nothing but the tears in our eyes We are nothing but the lengths of our sighs

I could just take it Or I could leave it Some seem to breathe it Can’t quite describe it Oh, did I say Im leaving today To a place That is undetermined Before I go I just want you to know To your cause I remain unconverted Tiny disasters Can’t wait to happen Recur like blisters They make a pattern Oh, did I say Im leaving today To a place That is undetermined Before I go I just want you to know To your cause I remain unconverted I robbed you blind When you were looking I robbed you blind Talk about clueless I robbed you blind Too busy bleeding I robbed you blind Broken and listless I robbed you blind Too late for hearings I robbed you blind Now the horizon I robbed you blind Is made up of needles

I'm in the car I'm headed south I got my facts From the horse's mouth I'm blocking out Those silent screams It's my fears That feed my dreams I'm in a plane I'm flying east Trying to run From the hungry beast The starlight gleams My fate appears Shining through The dark light years I'm on my way Through the grimy north I speak my truth For what it’s worth My vision clears And my temper cools I have a purpose And I have the tools I'm on a train Travelling west Back to the place Where I can rest Gather my thoughts And catch my breath Pick a partner For the dance of death And now I'm Falling down the spiral staircase Losing in the daily rat race Couldn't even get to first base Couldn't ever keep a straight face Slowly running out of disc space Write it out in caps and boldface Another volume for the bookcase Another number on the clock face Not the type you'd want to embrace Nothing but a bloody disgrace Curse my birth and curse my birthplace Falling down the spiral staircase
7.
Clemency Is a long distance walker Endurance and anger Fret and scrap Like frightened kids would I still remember Your very last line What's yours is yours What's yours is mine I let you take away my spine But I will occupy your time It's not like you were busy Telling lies Outrage for breakfast Blood and lip In every word I still remember Your very last line What's yours is yours What's yours is mine I let you take away my spine But I will occupy your time
8.
This is what you'd hear This is what you'd see If a hundred thousand people Could be like me They can make this work They can make this pay While a hundred thousand people Are led astray So they took your name And they've got your soul And a hundred thousand chances To seize control A hundred thousand tiny minds Have had too much to think And now they want someone to suffer For pushing them past the brink A hundred thousand fingers point Casting judgement on our lives A hundred thousand idle hands Are sharpening their knives And I feel the pain When I think or act There's a hundred thousand names On this suicide pact But the signal's weak And the line is dead And a hundred thousand reasons Rattle round my head Now all that's left Is a pile of bones And a hundred thousand people Staring at their phones
9.
Rocketships 03:00
I'm not sure where this begins (The bells ring out on New Year's Eve) I'm not sure how this one ends (A thought, a glance, a cruel word) Is this just one of those things (Now one must stay and one must leave) Where lovers always end up friends (The lines we drew have all been blurred) Correct me if I'm wrong Correct me if I'm right Correct the rocketships Correct the satellite Correct the moon and stars The last few bars Correct me if I'm wrong Correct me if I'm right Correct the rocketships Correct the satellite Correct the moon and stars The last few bars And correct me if I'm wrong But we are done I'm not sure where this might start (The sun goes down on Halloween) Don't have the will to stop (It's trick or treat, it's truth or dare) Buried deep inside my heart (And if I had a time machine) Habits just too hard to drop (There's no way that I'd end up here) Correct me if I'm wrong Correct me if I'm right Correct the rocketships Correct the satellite Correct the moon and stars The last few bars Correct me if I'm right Correct me if I'm wrong Forget the things we said Forget this silly song The strumming of guitars The last few bars Correct me if I'm wrong Correct me if I'm right Correct the rocketships Correct the satellite Correct the moon and stars The last few bars Correct me if I'm wrong But we are done
10.
Tell me what you need Open windows, something freed Hold my hand and plant a seed Because it's time Show me what you see Broken concrete, growing tree Best foot forward next to me Cos it's time I thought I was a leaf Floating on a stream But I am just a weapon And this is not a dream I thought I was a leaf Floating on a stream But I am just a weapon And this is not a dream I give you my bones You throw them like they're stones I watch with eyes like drones Where is the time? I thought I was a leaf Floating on a stream But I am just a weapon And this is not a dream I thought I was a leaf Floating on a stream But I am just a weapon And this is not a dream Not a dream Disappear like words All the snakes and birds Cut my heart in thirds In good time Disappear like words All the snakes and birds Cut my heart in thirds In good time
11.
Ceasefire 03:57
Let’s stop going round in circles It’s not you and it’s not me Let’s stop going round in circles Let’s just agree to disagree I guess we could talk it over Voice our thoughts and clear the air Talk and talk and talk it over But let’s not waste another year The telephone will not stop ringing Dispatches from the dispossessed The telephone will not stop ringing I just want to get some rest Well we could go on and on Back and forth until the dawn Until we’ve lost the will to live And we have no more to give But now the hour is very late It’s time to end this whole debate Sign a treaty, make a truce Put an end to this abuse And call a ceasefire Call a ceasefire We’re still going round in circles It’s still not you, it’s still not me We can’t stop going round in circles It seems it wasn’t meant to be Yeah we’re still going round in circles It’s never me, it’s never you So we’ll keep going round in circles There’s nothing else that we can do
12.
Somewhere in this house We might just find the words Pin them down exactly They are migrating birds That leave my field of vision As soon as they arrive Construct the message from my heart This need keeps me alive It wasn't everything we hoped it would be It was there between the bodies That contain the facts of you and me Broke up in the atmosphere, a cascade So a fulsome apology Should now be made In your fingertips The ones that traced my eyes I just can't relinquish The fast decaying ties That bind us like an ocean From shore to deep and back A singular relation The wounds that left a track It wasn't everything we hoped it would be It was there between the bodies That contain the facts of you and me Broke up in the atmosphere, a cascade So a fulsome apology Should now be made

Empty chairs are placed around the table Empty glasses waiting for the toast We'll raise our glasses, we who are still able In memory of those we miss the most Empty heart and empty hands No guide to these mystic lands Empty words that never will be spoken Empty plates forgotten at the feast Platitudes to comfort the heartbroken Does any of this matter in the least? Empty hands and empty heart While the future falls apart In the depth of night I name the nameless The memory gleams like a razor blade So cold and sharp, the wound is almost painless The blood flows but the debt must still be paid Empty heart and empty hands Wandering these barren lands Empty hands and empty heart Watch the future fall apart
14.
The map of a bird The schooling of thought A trail in the dark A soul being bought Soundproof the rooms Bully the beef Line up the kids And pull out their teeth Cos this will collapse And all things will fall The drawing of lines It will scatter the hall I'm breaking my heart I'm so tired in the bones Ignoring the clues We're still answering the phones The clouds in my head We're following ghosts Who are following the dead The dust at our feet Is broken and poor It covers the heart And it smothers the floor Cos this will collapse And all things will fall The drawing of lines It will scatter the hall I'm breaking my heart I'm so tired in the bones Ignoring the clues But we're still answering the phones The trails and the gates The badges and sheets The columns and columns And columns of treats Cos this will collapse And all things will fall The drawing of lines It will scatter the hall I'm breaking my heart I'm so tired in the bones Ignoring the clues We're still answering the phones

Oh yes it’s all stacked up I got the drive backed up I made the cash stash, whoop I’m in the top ten I’m on the en-suite playlist The quiet exhibitionist I’m spelling bee material I’m in the top-ten Is this a one-way ticket? Is this a one way ticket, yeah? Is this a one-way ticket? I am the bard of Ibiza We came on ships and trucks We buried bones and children We made the wait-list, wait-list I’m in the top-ten Let’s get some food first, Stevie Let’s proper line our stomachs, yeah? I know the bouncer bouncer I’m in the top-ten Is this a one-way ticket? Is this a one way ticket, yeah? Is this a one-way ticket? I am the bard of Ibiza It seems a disadvantage It is a pre-condition It seems they knew we were coming I’m in the top-ten We used to build them horses We wrote the scripts and bridges And now it packs flat, packs flat I’m in the top-ten Is this a one-way ticket? Is this a one way ticket, yeah? Is this a one-way ticket? I am the bard of Ibiza

about

At first glance there may seem to be little or nothing to connect the teeming streets of Jakarta with the grey-green hills of rainy Scotland, but the album Outrage for Breakfast does just that.

The conception of this collaboration could arguably be traced back forty years, when Product of Reason and the Instant Automatons were forged in North Lincolnshire's crucible of lo-fi DIY creativity. From the ashes of those bands Richard RandomK and Mark Automaton have raised the phoenix that is randomk/automata.

Outrage for Breakfast is their First Will and Testament; an ambitious melding of minds. A collection of works that cover subjects both contemporary and timeless: the ravages of the ageing process, dysfunctional relationships, the pitfalls of social media, the loss of loved ones, and the imagined inner thoughts of serial killers, narcissists and other broken humans.

Outrage for Breakfast reminds us that, if you believe that “God's in his heaven, all's right with the world”, then you really haven't been paying attention.
